CC adores this trend: it lends itself to a defined waistline, creating womanly curves and accentuating the neckline and décolletage. Have fun emboldening those shoulders, darlings!

omg that white dress with the cut-out back is amazing!
ReplyDeleteSome of the fashion reminded me of Joan Collins in DYNASTY...oooh can start hearing the theme song from the series...
ReplyDelete~XO*
I used to always rip the shoulders pads out of the outfits that had them when I was younger but I think I may just be ready to add a little extra something to at least one shoulder. Love the looks that are more shoulder detailing. Great post! xx blair
ReplyDeletehehe i really rather like it... i always think i have massive shoulders anyway, so this way people can think i'm on trend, while just being my normal, oddly shaped self! hehe. on a more "serious" note - i'm so so so enjoying getting out all my mother's 80s escada and jaeger suits... and nicking the jackets! ;-D

MADRE MIA! QUE POST MAS CHULO!! A MI EN LO PERSONAL LAS HOMBRERAS DE BALMAIN ME ENCANTAN , BESOS WAPA MUY CHULO TU BLOG! TE SIGO:)
ReplyDeleteThe shoulder pads are such a cool statement. I love that they're back in fashion again.
ReplyDeleteChristy looks so hot in the Dolce!
ReplyDeleteI love that lanvin dress!
ReplyDeleteI hate this trend - Well, I hate the exagerated Balmain 80's shoulders. Ugh, no thanks!
ReplyDeleteBut I do like the winged out ones like the white top or the Chloe dress. Those are pretty.
Ay yi yi, only reserved for the select fierce few.
ReplyDeleteI can't do the big shoulders. These look great but not on me, so I think I'll let this trend pass me by. I know I'm a wuss.
ReplyDeleteTrisch xo
I love the straps of the green dress!! So pretty :)
ReplyDeleteNot for the faint of heart, and I'm glad to see it is not such a literal take on the horrific 80s lol. The Gareth Pugh look is so stunning, and I really love the one shoulder detailing of that Lanvin dress! The puffy shoulders in the LV collection were beautiful too :)
ReplyDeleteHi there-wow, the Balmain lace top is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same reaction as Lenore only I was seeing Crystal Carrington( Linda Evans).
ReplyDeletexo
Because I'm a bit broader in the shoulders I shy away from emphasizing them even more, but something like the purple Doo.Ri dress looks like it would work well!
ReplyDeleteI adore all of the ruffles, but can not appreciate shoulder pads, try as I might! :)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of bold shoulders, yesterday i saw a pic of Victoria Beckham rocking them. She looked stunning!

Models have a way of pulling off all looks! I myself would not be able to get away with such a look. I'm too curvy - can you imagine how off I would look?! haha
ReplyDelete"The Shape"
ReplyDeleteLOVE!
i would do almost everythink for the blue ungaro-dress.. it is breathtaking!! and i love the last photography, so beautiful. nice choices as usual ;)
ReplyDeleteI love how Christy Turlington looks in that first dress. I don't think I could ever pull huge shoulders like that off!
ReplyDeleteMmmm give me balmain any day!!
ReplyDeleteThe white & green dresses from shopbop are so divine!!!
xxx
I think I can deal with some ruffle sleeves or one-shoulder dresses, but I do not want anything that reminds me of football players!
ReplyDeleteI love big shoulders but how long will this trend last.
ReplyDeletethat is a whole lotta shoulder!
ReplyDeleteSuch a bold look I wish I could pull off! Great pics, CC x
ReplyDeleteI love all of them, specially that Balmain jacket!! I wasn´t very sure about this trend coming back but now I totally adore it!
ReplyDeleteya know, I've learned not to hate on anything because it always seems to come back around and I end up wearing it again ..and USUALLY, the trend comes back BETTER than the original ...and in this case, I couldn't agree more. love.it.
ReplyDelete...the second photos is hilarious!!!
By the time it gets to the "public" it won't be as extreme. Right now if I showed up at school to pick up my kid, wearing one of those, I'd be laughed at. And he probably wouldn't acknowledge me as his mother :-D
ReplyDeletethese images are so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOooh I don't think I could wear this unless it was toned down! So funny how all these 80s trends are coming back.
ReplyDeletelol... DYNASTY comment is hilarious...
ReplyDeletea great selection of shoulder shapes going on. Very very lovely. The bigger the better THE BOLDER!!!!
ReplyDeleteRianna Bethany xxxxxxxxxx
what an impact! love them :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the rubin Singer dress it has an old school vibe, d Ungaro is also tasty! i'd advice daring fashionistas to leave the Gareth Pugh for entertainers like Beyonce, Kyle or Estelle :oD
ReplyDeleteBeen down wit a fever for 3 days now :o( [sobs]..[sniffs] i guess i'd feel better tomorrow and all of this headache wld be gone. Hope u ok?
holy cow, it's like the puffed sleeve trend on steroids!! I could see myself in the frilly one-sleeved ones, they're all striking looks!
ReplyDeletei really don't like broad shoulders but some of those are really hot and they kinda look like something i would see on the anime cartoons i've watched
ReplyDeleteThese are all great outfits. I loved the Nina Ricci S/S 09 collection and the Lanvin S/S 09 collections. The picture from the older magazine is so pretty! xx
ReplyDeleteLOVE the blue one near the top! Im totally into the one shoulder!
ReplyDeleteI like the return of the shoulder, but we'll laugh at some of these in a few years just like we laughed at the '80s jackets!
ReplyDeletei love the look of an exaggerated shoulder, the sillhouette can be difficult to pull off but so chic!
ReplyDeleteHey Carrie. Any post that features a pic of Christy Turlington is fine by me. I love her.
ReplyDeleteOh these shoulders are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love reading your blog. The Balmain jacket is killer, I think I'm on the search for a similar jacket. You should come to Vietnam, the people and fashion here are different.
ReplyDeleteoh no, i put an extra I on Balmain, silly me!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely do a puff shoulder, but I'm not really digging the angular ones.
ReplyDeleteOh the Balmain jacket!!! I would love to be wearing it right now...
ReplyDeleteThe bold shoulder really works on some of the outfits!
E
From Cinderella to Barbarella.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this !
Eighties in the best reinterpretation, again.
You have such an unbelievable sense for fashion. You're blog is one of the greatest things! I recently tagged you in a posting :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still finding it really hard to get into big shoulder pads. I think memories of the 80s make me shiver slightly still.
ReplyDeleteI do think they look fantastic on people, just not me.
x
The shoulder trend is funny - last time it wat this big it was just before depression, economic was going great. Now it's almost opposite.
ReplyDeletejuliet xxx
Since I was introduced to Balmain I've always always benn tempted since then. But I'm squat and wittle hahauj5t5. Not such a good look on me but geez don't i dreamm about them in my sleep! haha

ReplyDeletehttp://pinkchampagnefashion.blogspot.com/
I like it a lot! I can't believe I'm saying this, after making fun of my mom's 80's pictures so much!
ReplyDeleteNot those big HUGE poufy shoulders though. I like the Balmain touches with the slightly "up-ed" out shoulder.
Oh and yeah, I'd love to do a link exchange with you. Tell me when you do :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this trend! I'm an 80's child so yeah, this feels very right to me;)
ReplyDeleteoh LOVE the vogue fashback! how cool is that! clever thing - you are on the BALL. :)
ReplyDeletexxxx bel

ReplyDeleteOhhh i am loving bold shoulders. I have been wearing shoulder pads in my blazers for a while now and finally i am getting some validation for all those who raised their eyebrows and smirked! I especially love the Brian Reyes shoulders. It is more subtle but give a gorgeous silhouette
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love that last jacket!
ReplyDeleteI lovelovelovelove the Emanuel Ungaro dress. That collection was absolutely stunning! And I'm loving this bold shoulder. HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, CC!
