Spat It Out!

Spats, which consist of a cloth or leather gaiter covering the shoe upper and ankle and fastening under the shoe with a strap, originated in the late nineteenth century. They were used by French, Italian and Japanese soldiers as part of their uniforms.
Spats are worn today by Scottish highland pipe bands and some U.S. marching bands. Moreover, they are a popular shoe accessory for the modern fashionista!
