Early examples of the peplum can be found in Godey’s Lady’s Book, a popular 1800s magazine that featured poems and discussion about fashion. The early peplum was generally not affixed to the coat, but was merely an extra overskirt or flounce sewn onto, and dropping from, the waist. The modern peplum became popular as a design in women’s suiting in the 1940s: jackets were often fitted at the waist, but the fabric extended beyond the waist in an overskirt. Instant hourglass, darlings!

Peplum is just perfect to enhance a thin waist. Hum, think I'm gonna look for that kind of outfit.
ReplyDeleteI had a peplum jacket that I wore CONSTANTLY in the early '90s.
ReplyDeleteOMG those jackets!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteSome nice things here.
ReplyDeletei love anything that celebrates the female form and these are all fabulous options!
ReplyDeleteawesome pictures, really inspiring post!
ReplyDeleteno sabia el nombre de esa parte del vestuario gracias por la informacion, y personalmente me encanta como le da un toque romantico y femenino incluso a la chaqueta mas masculina... me estoy haciendo un vestido que lo tiene....despues lo muestro
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I never knew there was a name for that flouncy bit on a coat. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI do love a flattering peplum . . .
ReplyDeleteI had no idea THAT was a peplum... Thanks for this very interesting post.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with such a jacket is that you can't wear a couple of sweaters (as I do... I'm always freezing) under the jacket. It ruins the wasp-waist effect.
My new purple blazer (jacket) has a peplum and my new bow blouse also. But I wasn't awear that it was a trend...
ReplyDeleteThank you for calling my attention for that.
I think it's very cute and great to define waistline.
Nice pictures
xoxo
ohhh i love the greyskirt suit!!!perfect...i love most of the outfit here
ReplyDeletei just tried on a cashmere jacket at emporio armani like that. it makes a gal's waist look just tiny.
ReplyDeletei really love the moschino dress,i've on similar by patrizia pepe
ReplyDeletegreat education in fashion terminology! i like the look but i feel like it would be difficult to pull off unless you're very thin or have a small waist; ruffles seem to enhance curviness.
ReplyDeletexoxo
oooh i very very love the jacket !!!
ReplyDeleteomg, i love soooo many things! the jackets are wonderful...thank you for posting these!
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered what that was called - what a great name it has, peplum!
ReplyDeleteAs always informative, inspirational and gorgeous post CC!

Peplum looks nice, but it seems so rare to find a properly fitting look with this.
ReplyDeleteI love the Moschino jacket and the two dresses at the end. How adorable!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for your question--I'll be sure to get the vlog up soon!
That particular Prada look was my favorite from the season. You have all the best peplum looks here. You always have the best selection.
ReplyDeleteThis is an AMAZING trend! SO lady like. Why don't more people dress like this??
ReplyDeleteohh so that's what those things are called
ReplyDeletepeplum really does give you an instant hourglass! i'm not sure i'd go for it though.

what a stunning look! I particularly adore Jonathan Saunders. But everything here is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love this look - although I don't know if I could pull it off as well as some because I don't have a tiny little waist - but it looks so lovely on the people who can wear it - jealous!
ReplyDeleteI wish we would all dress like this! Bring back the female form! =D
ReplyDeletegreat history lesson and a new fashion vocab to get me going. It's really feminine which I like. Just a thing for a shapeless person like me. ;0

ReplyDeleteI didn't know that!
ReplyDeleteI like the jacket... Is it Sienna Miller wearing it?

ReplyDeleteWow! You learn something knew everyday. I never knew the proper term for it. I love the prada, and the Dior looks fantastic. Lindsay Ellingson looks perfect in the Dress.

I'm fascinated by this look esp. since Prada- I actually was looking at a style guide by the other day and the stylist author recommended peplum jackets for my figure... I think it's a sign!
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat...perfect to enhance a tiny waist... Really awesome post :)
