Frye shoes? What's the fuss? The Frye company is a big deal! They are the oldest shoe company in the United States, designing and producing sought-after boots since 1863.
Way, way back in the day (Civil War times), Frye shoes were a must for Union and Confederate soldiers. They were also a go-to for soldiers during the Spanish-American War through WWII. Even former President Teddy Roosevelt wore Frye shoes!
Today, Frye shoes aren't too popular amongst soldiers, but celebrities all over Tinsel Town love to show off their Fryes. Which ones? Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Aniston, just to name a few. In the past few decades, the Frye team created a devoted following for its quality of shoe and versatility in style. Those are two extremely important characteristics in a designer, if not the most important!
With so many different styles, Frye shoes satisfy needs for everybody. There are nine styles that range from Campus, to Western to Work. There are tall, short, and casual styles. Some boots are colorful and cowboy-inspired while others are black and chic with silver embellishments. Something for every occasion!

  1. My favorite thing about Frye shoes is the way in which the aesthetic juxtaposes between rugged rebelliousness and fashionable femininity. I view the mix as ideal for any situation or style.

Currently I'm most taken by Frye's Dorado Suede Riding Boots (http://www.shopbop.com/dorado-suede-riding-boots-frye/vp/v=1/845524441849626.htm?folderID=2534374302024536&fm=browse-brand-shopbysize). The distressed detailing, and worn look about the toe provide such character for the shoe - and no one can resist footwear with a little heart and soul! :)

  5. Wow! Picking my favorites out of the Fryer shoes at shopbob.com was a hard task! They were all so lovely. Still, if I'd have to pick one pair I'd say the Deborah Studded Booties were my favs! They are definately chic with their studdings (you know how I love them studs!) These boots would bring a chic, cowgirly vibe to any fashionable outfit!

  6. I love Frye boots - their boots go perfect with jeans, shorts, skirts -everything!. I especially love the Frye Deborah Studded Boots. Miley Cyrus wears these boots all the time. If I had these boots, I would wear them while jamming to Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA".

  7. I do. Always have, always will. My first pair of Fryes meant as much to me as my first car, my first girlfriend and the first strange stamp on my passport.

    Freedom, identity, adventure.

    Thanks Frye

  8. I have been eyeballing the Frye "Dorado" Low Boots for some time now. They would go with absolutely everything. I immediately picture myself wearing them with a chiffon floral mini dress, white knee high socks, topped with a trashed, studded, and pinned up denim vest. Gold layered necklaces and large vintage cocktail rings. I love Frye boots for their quality in a boot that will last for life. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  9. Great giveaway!

So, I am dying for a pair of the classic Campus boot (on my xmas list!), but for this contest, I'd have to say the Deborah studded booties that are quite drool worthy! I would pair with a fabulously bohemian look- black leggings, long flowy black dress, cool scarf, and layered bracelets. A fringe bag tops off the look :)

  10. Well - seeing as the only pair of Frye boots I have are a vintage Campus pair from the 70's and I VERY MUCH need new ones, I would go with the red/burgundy Melissa Riding Field Boots. The colour is amazing for fall and winter, the flat heel means walkability and comfort all day and the lace-up adds that extra bit of interest.

I’d pair it with black skinny pants, a dark red velvet blazer, striped 3/4 nautical boatnet top and a newsboy cap. Sort of a French horseback rider!

  11. I love the way they look, and their craftsmanship and I can definitely see the civil war times historic influence on them!

  13. So many options! It's between the Dorado in grey and the Simone cuffed in dark brown. I think the Simone wins out since it's unlike anything I own and I like the details.

  18. Mmmmmmm. Hello, Bethany Cuff Shortie Boots. Wouldn't these pirate wench inspired goodies be just perfect for my fantasy role Mrs. Jack Sparrow? Since, Pirates of the Carribean 3 isn't looking too likely, I'm thinking the hubs might enjoy all that cuffed yumminess almost as much as Johnny would have. ah ha ha

  19. My favorite pair of Frye boots are the Harness 8 Boots - they're classic, timeless, functional, and stylish! These are the kind of boots that you would wear your whole life, and save to pass on to your children and grandchildren. They will never go out of style and never wear out!

Currently, I'd wear these boots with skinny jeans, an oversized chucky sweater, and loads of jewelry. But I can see them going with silky flowy dresses in the summer, and cutoff denim shorts and tees on weekends. Love love love these boots!

  21. My favourite Frye boot is the studded Deborah bootie. It says it all to me, urban and American. I'm a Brit so I would feel very rugged but also trendy in such a fab boot.

They have a great history so I'd wear them with drama!

  22. I'm obsessed with the Matilda Button Tall Boots in cranberry. I can see myself wearing it with my usually all-black ensemble. The focal point will be the cranberry boots which deserves such exposure.

  24. I really admire the Paige Loop Pull On Boots for their blend of midwest, "cowboy" and classic English equestrian styles. When I first graduated from college, moved back home and started looking for a job, I was totally broke. Even so, I blew the majority of my graduation money on a pair of Frye boots that I had fallen in love with. They are gorgeous, distinctive, and will last and last.

Right after getting them, I showed my boots to a family friend. He told me "I don't really get the style, but I would kill to have a piece of leather that high quality." Even the fashion clueless love them.

  27. I love this! I would want the third pair. They are casual enough so that you aren't "High falutin'" as we say in the south, but they are edgy enough to wear on the streets on Manhattan where I live now.

These boots would be paired with some super skinny jeans and my long. white scoop back top from AA. I would layer some gold necklaces for some added pop and bow headband in my hair for a girly flourish!

  28. I love Frye shoes and boots...I love how urban and tough the shoes are but also so feminine. They are also timeless. I have a pair that are years and years old and all I have to do is polish them every once in a while. I also have a fabulous pair of sandals in blue leather from this last summer...they are so fabulous and so comfortable.

I think that these are my favorite from Shopbop...they look comfortable, so stylish and cool. They would look perfect in the city or in the country for riding...I see myself wearing them for years.

  34. I am kinda torn between the Harness 8 boot and the Engineer. I love both of those boots because they have a similiar look and they are great to wear when I go mudding. You need tough shooes like that to push a car out of the mud. I could also see myself wearing those boots with jeans and a rugged, beat up tee on a easy Saturday. They truly are the perfect keep forever boot.

  35. I am a first time "commenter" on this blog. A loooong time "reader" but I have never stopped to say hello before. It really took a Frye Boots contest to break my silence. How unclassy of me, but I must confess! I have had a GIANT crush on the fabulous Matilda Button Tall Boots in cranberry for quite a while now. (Although I wouldn't object to the navy sister either...)I love the vintage feel of these boots. The piping and button details make me think Victorian styles, but nicely contrasted by the stacked platform heel and rich Cranberry or Navy colour. These boots would be perfect for those days when we feel like paying tribute to the naughty librarian or saucy secretary...curve hugging pencil skirt, tailored vest, ruffled silk blouse and the Matildas. Mmmmmmm...Pure perfection!

  37. Since the moment I laid my eyes on the Melissa Button boot about a month ago, I have not been able to get them out of my head! The gorgeous leather, adorable button, and the great workmanship have definitely come together in this perfect pair of classic boots.

I think about these boots about once or twice a day... usually day dreaming about what I'd wear with them (hmm... how about a new knit dress and leggings, or some new skinnies and a long sweater?) but more likely than not, I'm thinking up how I can save enough money for a pair. I'm racking my brain to think of things to sell on Craigslist just so I can get these boots (I've already saved up $130 by selling some of my wedding decorations. Score!) but I'm pretty sure once I get these beauties, I'll need more money to buy super cute outfits to match the even-super-er cuteness of the boots.

Oh, and I went completely out of my way after work today just to touch my Melissa Button boots at Macy's. *sigh* they are heaven.

  42. I am "blessed" with huge feet (size 11). Feet so big that my first boyfriend joked I had to go outside to turn around. The kind of feet that make me hate shoe shopping because I know I'll never find anything in my size.

Frye is one of the few companies that not only makes shoes in my size, they make hot shoes in my size. Shoes that don't make me choose between looking a granny or looking like a porn star.

My favorite Frye shoes from Shopbop this season have to be the Matilda Tall Button boot in black (http://bit.ly/UlQeZ). It not only looks warm and sturdy, but pretty too...and it satisfies my secret craving to be a prim and proper Victorian lady. ;-)

  50. Frye Shoes, Frye boots; how to choose?

I decided to make this fall into a "english countryside goes bohemian fairytale" quite some time ago, but sadly it's November and I'm still looking for my happy ending. Then I found Veronica Slouch and Samantha Patch. And after imagining myself and my teddy roosevelt goes edgy parisian outfits, I have to say; Samantha Patch, I'm your match!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love Frye boots. I always have. I remember four or so years ago seeing Keira Knightly in that Vogue editorial in the jungle (with the elephant!) and she's wearing a pair of Frye Engineers. The interesting thing is that Frye hasn't lost steam since then either. I am constantly seeing new ways pop up for people to wear the new styles. I'm impressed with how well they turned out the Erin Oxford Flat. They are so reminiscent of Erin Wasson's style and they perfectly echo the way you'd want them to look.

Personally, my current favorite in the ShopBop store is (of course) the Frye Veronica Slouch boot. I'd wear these with just about anything. Dresses...Skirts...Shorts..You name it. And with winter around the corner what better way to keep warm than to just pull these over some skinny jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Matilda's in navy are incredible. I just love the button detailing and navy...well, I'm kinda crazy about it right now. Loving navy with heather grey and ethereal colours. It'll take you right through Fall, Winter and Spring. Even Summer on a chilly night, and in Toronto a chilly Summer night is more frequent than not.
And even better...Frye's are deceiving - not exactly what you picture when you think comfort, but they ARE, you could walk in these for days!!!
    xx

  53. Hands down, I pick the Billy Tall Pull On boots in red. You see, I had a pair of red cowboy boots when I was little and this reminds me of them greatly.

I'm pretty sure I would wear them the same way now as I did then-- with really pretty dresses and sparkly jewelry!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like 'em tall, high-heeled, and buckled down. And if I can't get diamonds on the soles, I'll take gold studs near it.

The no-nonsense brown Frankie Buckle Boots are for me. I'll run this town with them. And then go save some abandoned kittens. Everything you do, do it with style!

  56. I think I'd have to go with the classic black Frye Engineer boots (Style #:FRYEB20049). I'm pining after my first ever pair of Frye's (they're not readily available over in the UK!) and these would be a stylish start to my collection :)

I would wear them with a simple outfit:
    > My trusty indigo blue, spray-on skinny jeans,
    > A sheer, feminine silk blouse,
    > A long, pendant necklace,
    > Loose tousled hair, and
    > My favourite tan trench coat!

My birthday was just this past weekend and some Frye boots would be the perfect gift to myself! *Fingers crossed*

  57. I am absolutely in love with Frye Engineer 8R boots. Why? Because when I tried on a pair once with my boyfriend, he exclaimed that they made me look so hot that he was ready to spend a good chunk of his paycheck to buy them for me. Alas, that store didn't have my size, but they've been on my mind ever since.

If I had a pair, i would love to wear them with leggings and a floral print dress for a nice juxtaposition of sweetness and toughness.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well I'm pretty embarrassed to say this but I literally don't own a pair of non-heeled boots...OTHER than my Frye gray cowboy boots. I bought them probably 5 years ago and they look as good as they did the day I bought them. That's why I love Frye boots, such great quality on top of cute style.

My favorite pair of boots that I have actually been eyeing on shopbop are the Melissa Button Boots in Fawn. 1. They are literally the perfect everyday go-to must have boot. I would throw them over jeans for day or wear them with a floral dress and leather jacket for night. 2. The color "Fawn" is the best. It's slight green tone sets them apart from the standard boring boot colors, yet still goes would still go with everything just as easily. 3. Fawn is a cool name for a color too, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  59. My favorite, I think, is the Veronica Slouch Boot. Very unique to Frye, I think.

  60. I have been coveting the veronica slouch boot for months.

If I were to win the Shopbop gift certificate, I would immediately begin a torturous routine of squats and lunges to ensure that my legs looked as good as gorgeous buckskins on them.

  61. Earlier this seaon someone asked what my go to outfit was going to be. Tried and true, jeans, a white tee & my Frye boots.

  62. I always hoped that I will be a rockstar in my next life and so it's never too late to practice what to wear now! I would LOVE to wear the Frye Paige Loop Pull-on boots in black, red gingham short pleated skirt, black tank top and a leopard fur jacket while singing my heart out. Sounds outrageous but I love it!! :)

  64. Dear CC

My favourite pair has to be the Deborah studded booties. I'm a story teller and these boots on my feet have a story to tell about who I am. As with all stories when still in their beginning, this one is filled with the promise of its unfolding. Here I am at the beginning - 'She toed the gate open with her boots. Two steps down, and the past receded. A mile, and the boots covered in dust stood her in a flat landscape. The sky upended her. Yes, she said, swallow me.'

  65. I'm totally in love with the Allie softie pumps:

    http://www.shopbop.com/allie-softy-pumps-frye/vp/v=1/845524441847843.htm?folderID=2534374302024536&fm=browse-brand-shopbysize-viewall

I love how versatile and stylish these shoes are. And at 30% off these gorgeous shoes are only $131.60, a steal! With a $100 gift card, only $31.60. Mind = blown! A price like that seems like it should be illegal. But seriously, something beautiful and high quality at an amazing price? Nothing feels and looks better than that.

This just proves how amazing Shopbop is, the best products at amazing prices and amazing sales to top it all off. I've ordered from them more times than I can count and they NEVER disappoint. These beauties are also proof that Frye isn't just about good looking, quality boots... they're about good looking, quality products in general.

How would I style these? I think the question is, how wouldn't I style these? They'd look absolutely stunning with a pair of black nylons, and a simple aline or baby doll dress (from Shopbop of course). However, I'm thoroughly convinced that I could wear a paper bag for a dress and it would still look good when paired with these shoes. But I think it goes without saying that the best outfit inspiration comes here on Couture Carrie.

Thank you so much for the chance to win- love shopbop, love frye, love YOU!

  66. My favorite hands down are the uber-ladylike Matilda Button Tall Boots in Cranberry.

I say, if you want a statement piece, this is them! Whether paired with jeans or a flirty weekend dress or slacks for work, these are the ultimate in versatility! Some people turn to blacks or browns or even grays as basic colors, but I think that a beautiful dark red like this goes with everything. Plus the unexpected punch of color will add the va-va-voom to any outfit.

By the way, do you remember the American Girl series of books? One was set in Victorian times--Samantha. She was my favorite and she wore button-up boots, which I put on my Christmas list year after year, to no avail. Well, these are those, all grown-up. Definitely worth the decade-long wait :)

  67. Me want! Me want! Me want! They look so comfy and fab and durable!

  68. I love the Frye Dorado Low Boots in Grey. They look very worn yet trendy for the fall season. Grey is a very big color or shade for the winter and these boots would just complete an outfit. I would wear these with skinny jeans or tights with a big comfortable wool sweater or a great leather jacket. It would also look great with a blazer to make it a little more dressy :) and a hot scarf
