Sheer Genius

The New York Times called it “peek-a-boo”. CC calls it stunning! Whether via sheer sleeves, a delicate chiffon overlay, or lacy details, transparency is positively transcendent!
Enjoy the runway inspirations and then get some ideas on how to channel the trend...

How to wear the titillating trend. . .
Dressing sheer need not be scandalous; just don the appropriate underpinnings. CC likes American Apparel's "too-short" tube dress, which can also double as a skirt or top, under a see-through garment.
Elizabeth and James Irina cami dress. Visit aloharag.com.
Deal of the Day: Sparkle & Fade Point D’Esprit Trim Slip, $38 at Urban Outfitters.
At right: Chloé layered chiffon knee-length gown; this and next at net-a-porter.com.
3.1 Phillip Lim transparent lace dress.
At right: Eucalyptus Sweetheart party dress, at asos.com.
Hanii Y chiffon patched bustier blouse. Go to shopbop.com for this and next.
Binetti Peita silk chiffon blouse with contrast velvet banding.
The Riser Goodwyn short-sleeve sheer blouse pictured at right is currently 60% off at eLuxury.com!
Sheer budgeting: Topshop raw-edge frill blouse. Go to topshop.com to buy.
Flower Vine smocked top. Visit forever21.com.
Vivienne Westwood Red Label Orb flock shirt; this and next at net-a-porter.com.
Diane von Furstenberg Olvida top.

Sheer genius… right, darlings? Now we just have to get ourselves some lovely lacy bras to wear underneath!

How do you wear sheer, my fellow fashionistas? Which is your favorite look?

  10. I bought a sheer black cotton top while in London and discovered these amazingly thin but effective heat-retaining camis from Uniqlo. I bought two in nude and they've been lifesavers; thin enough to layer underneath a top and tuck into jeans but also opaque enough to provide coverage!

  13. Thanks for the underpinning recommendation. i have a couple of sheer things that I've wanted to wear but I've been very lazy about getting something to go underneath.

  14. Oh I love all of them! I often inadvertently wear the sheer look all the time because I don't realise how see-through my clothes are until it's too late! I love the look of sheer lace over a slip though.

  16. I just love sheer blouses. Might have to venture into some sheer dresses but not too sheer!

  17. Fear that this trend would be sheer terror on me. I am all for transparency, only not in a garment.
They are all translucent treasures, but not for me.

  18. I love your new banner pic! You always have such stunning banner pics :)

As for sheer, I do love it if properly done. I have a sheer cream silk blouse, that is victorian styled with a high neck and lacey ruffled collar and cuffs... the victorian style is the perfect juxtaposition to the sheerness.
I wear either cream or nude pink retro style bras or corsets undeneath.

  31. Your better have a perfect body for these peek-a-boo fashions!
And I'm not sure they are good for PTA or church functions... actually if you wear these in public... can you get arrested for indecent exposure... I think I will take this up with the local authorities before I venture out with one of these ensembles.
    ENJOY your weekend!
